I Once Was Lost…

insearch

Writing reviews (to me at least) is very personal.  I have this unbridled passion for books, and the need to tell everyone about them, but from time to time I find myself at a loss.  Not necessarily because the book was good or bad, but because it expresses something so much deeper than myself.  “In Search of Lucy” is a good example of one of those moments; that time in space when I feel like I’ve stared at this blank page much longer than it took me to read the book, struggling to find the words.  Then it hits me,

There’s A British Dude WHERE?

knockers

Afternoon Kindle-ites! Well, today I decided to take a break from the whole “I can’t remember my name” theme I’ve had going on and instead focus on boobs. That’s right…the ones you see directly to the left, the ones you are staring at instead of actually reading what I’m writing. *waves* Hi! Yes..ok, now that I’ve got your attention, let’s talk about “Knockers” by Ellyn Oaksmith. “Knockers is about a young woman, Molly, who, through a surgical error receives unwanted breast implants. Furious, she schedules surgery to have them removed, only to find out that the implants begin talking to

Oy! Not Again!

friends

Sooo… it’s been a while since I’ve read chick-lit, mostly because I hate it, (ok hate it is a bit of a stretch, lets just say I wish it intense bodily harm.) but more, because I just can’t bring myself to accept if for review. Now, just so we are clear… I’m not talking about romances or (more common these days) a romp in the hay. Noooo… I am talking about the, “Oh woe is me, my life really sucks so I’m going to sit her and whine about it for 260 pages before I finally figure out that living

Wait…You Weren’t Drunk?

Several of you know by now that I have a very unhealthy hatred of Kate Hudson, which… under any normal circumstance would have zero to do with a book review;  however, a month ago I saw a preview for a film called “Something Borrowed” and guess who was in it.  That’s right… the ever so Yoko-esq Ms. Hudson.  I have to admit, despite an urge to chunk a brick at the TV, the movie looked wildly entertaining, so I did a little digging. Come to find out ”Something Borrowed” was based on a book (obviously of the same name) by Emily Giffin. Within minutes I purchased the book. NOT because of my

Finding My Strength

Yesterday, very shortly after posting my “Dear Author’s…” rant, I was contacted by Heather Wardell, (one of my favorite authors.) “Read Planning to Live” she said, throwing down her personal shiny gauntlet; challenging me to NOT connect with her characters. So I did. I pulled out my kindle, loaded the book and started reading, unfortunately…after 1 paragraph I remembered what the book was about and freaked. I picked up my Kindle, shoved it into my bag and quickly left the room. I then sprinted to the bathroom (of a very large, very busy car dealership) and proceeded to splash water

Why I Love Singlehood – A Minute With Elisa & Sarah

One of the best parts of running KO is getting to know some of my favorite authors.  There is nothing more fascinating that understanding who they are and what makes them tick.  Today is no different.  While I know (admittedly) nothing about Sarah, I have been an acquaintance of Elisa’s for a while, so when she emailed me about her new book, “Why I Love Singlehood” I figured… hey… what better way to promote the book than getting to know the people that penned it.  So here it is, my minute with 2 very different, very interesting ladies in literature.

A Broken Path To Nowhere

There was a period in my life where I felt the need to be detached. Not physically… being AROUND people was not the issue for me, the “emotional connection” is what I feared. I had been forced to face a string of emotional torture and as a result I was (almost) irrevocably damaged. I did not like to talk, I did not form attachments of any kind. I avoided social situations, and more importantly convinced myself that not caring was the easiest path that life had to offer. Thankfully I recognized my moronicness and in record time, replaced my brain

Paging Melodramatic Blondes!

cover-seven

I am not a fan of reality TV. I’d rather keep out the Kardashian’s than keep up with them, and just the thought of shows like Jersey Shore make me question society’s mental stability. There’s no denying that they have taken over main stream media, (hell… I can’t even go 10 minutes without seeing a tweet about Snookie) but what happens when it trickles over into literature? Madeleine-Cora is a private person… or at least she was until one night she tried extreme drinking and as a result signed up for a television dating game. No problem right? Put on

The Truth Is All We Have

Days of Grace

I’m fairly certain this is the first time I have been completely clueless as to how to start my review.  My normal banter seems wildly inappropriate, yet focusing entirely on the gloom, I feel will have an adverse effect. When I first read the slip cover for “Days of Grace” I picked up two very distinctive things, 1.  Struggling with the affects of war through the eyes of a 12 year old girl 2.  Experiencing the inner turmoil of a lost love but when it was all said and done, when I closed the back cover, and switched off the
